About Us
The High Plains Breastfeeding Coaltion was formed in 2011 with two specific goals in mind:
- To bring together professionals, volunteers and community members who want to support, encourage and protect breastfeeding in the Texas Panhandle.
- To increase breastfeeding rates in our local communities.
The founder and current Coalition Chair is Kathleen Kendall-Tackett, Ph.D., IBCLC. Dr. Kendall-Tackett is a health psychologist, lactation consultant, and La Leche League Leader. She is Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Amarillo, co-author of the book, Breastfeeding Made Simple, 2nd Edition, and Editor-in-Chief of the USLCA journal, Clinical Lactation. Dr. Kendall-Tackett is the Panhandle representative for the Texas Breastfeeding Coalition.
